What is Minimum Essential Coverage?

Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) is any health coverage that satisfies the ACA's definition of qualifying coverage, including Marketplace plans, most employer plans, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, TRICARE, and certain other government programs, per IRS (2026).
