Which insurance companies are leaving the ACA Marketplace in 2027?
KFF counts 11 insurance carriers that have announced they will leave the ACA Marketplaces in some or all of their states for 2027, as of October 28, 2026, while seven are entering new state Marketplaces. The biggest is Cigna, which KFF says will exit all 11 states where it sells individual coverage: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Other verified 2027 exits: Baylor Scott & White Health Plan (Texas); CareSource (Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia); Medica (Iowa, the Kansas City area of Kansas, and Oklahoma); Molina (Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio and South Carolina, and off-exchange only in Utah); PacificSource (Idaho, Montana and Oregon); Providence Health Plan (Oregon); UnitedHealthcare (Georgia); Centene's Ambetter (Delaware and New Hampshire, plus two of its three Arkansas entities, with QCA Health Plan staying); Mending, formerly Taro Health (Maine and Oklahoma); and two insurers moving to off-exchange-only plans — Cox Health Plans in Missouri and ConnectiCare Insurance Company in Connecticut. If your insurer is on this list, your current plan ends December 31, 2026. HealthCare.gov says that when your company isn't offering plans for next year, "we'll re-enroll you in a plan with a different insurance company," but that automatic match may not include your doctors or drugs — choose your own plan by December 15, 2026 for a January 1 start; Open Enrollment ends January 15, 2027. For help choosing or enrolling in a plan, call United Enrollment Services, a licensed insurance agency, at 1-866-401-4116.

What it means
- An insurer leaving does not cancel your coverage today; your plan runs through December 31, 2026, and you need a different plan for January 1, 2027.
- Several states lose more than one insurer at once: Texas (Cigna and Baylor Scott & White), Florida (Cigna and Molina), Indiana (Cigna and CareSource), Mississippi (Cigna and Molina), Ohio (CareSource and Molina), Illinois (Cigna and Molina), Georgia (Cigna and UnitedHealthcare) and Oregon (PacificSource and Providence).
- Off-exchange-only plans, like Cox Health Plans in Missouri, Molina in Utah and ConnectiCare Insurance Company in Connecticut for 2027, cannot be paired with a premium tax credit, which is available only through the Marketplace.
- Not every change is a full exit: Centene's Sunshine State Health Plan is leaving Florida's individual market, and its members who do not choose a plan move to an Ambetter plan from the same parent company; UCare plans in Minnesota are not offered for 2027 because Medica acquired them.
- KFF notes its insurer information is based on sources identified as of October 28, 2026 and may still change.
Action steps
- Find your insurer on the list and open the letter it sent you — it names your plan's end date.
- If you live in a state where United Enrollment Services' agents are licensed and that uses HealthCare.gov — Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming — call a licensed agent at 1-866-401-4116 to compare replacement plans and enroll you before December 15.
- Check the 2027 plans in your county at https://acadirectanswers.com/plans-2027/ followed by your two-letter state code and county name, for example https://acadirectanswers.com/plans-2027/tx/harris.
- Update your 2027 income estimate and household on your application so your premium tax credit is right.
- Confirm your doctors, hospital and prescriptions in the new plan's directory and drug list before you choose.
Risks & deadlines
- December 15, 2026: choose a plan for coverage starting January 1, 2027 in HealthCare.gov states.
- January 15, 2027: Open Enrollment ends in HealthCare.gov states; plans chosen after December 15 generally start February 1.
- State-run exchanges set their own dates — some close later, and Idaho closes December 15.
- If you do nothing you may be automatically re-enrolled with a different insurer; check that plan's network and drug list immediately.
