My Marketplace plan was canceled in the 2026 unauthorized-enrollment crackdown — can I get coverage for 2027?

Yes — nothing CMS has published bars you from enrolling in a 2027 Marketplace plan during Open Enrollment, which runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027 in HealthCare.gov states, with December 15 the deadline for coverage that starts January 1. CMS's September 22, 2026 fact sheet says it canceled approximately 315,000 enrollments covering more than 760,000 people on August 31, 2026 that it judged unauthorized, and will work to recoup the associated past advance premium tax credit payments; neither that fact sheet nor the accompanying press release says canceled consumers are blocked from re-applying. What changes for 2027 is how you enroll with help: CMS says that before Open Enrollment it will require electronic consumer authorization before an agent or broker can take any action on your application, and it placed a temporary moratorium on new 2027 registrations for agents and brokers who did not have an active 2026 Exchange Agreement. So apply in your own name, with your own accurate income and household information, and if you use an agent, use one you chose yourself, who is registered with the Marketplace for 2027 and who asks for your authorization before touching your application. For help choosing or enrolling in a plan, call United Enrollment Services, a licensed insurance agency, at 1-866-401-4116.

What it means

  • A cancellation in this sweep is not a finding that you personally committed fraud; many enrollments were made by brokers without the consumer's knowledge.
  • Open Enrollment for 2027 is a clean re-entry point: a new application, with your own income estimate and household, decides your 2027 eligibility and premium tax credit.
  • The new electronic authorization requirement means a legitimate agent will ask you to approve their access; someone who never asks is a warning sign.
  • CMS said it will work to recoup past subsidy payments tied to canceled enrollments, so keep any notices you received about your 2026 coverage.

Action steps

  1. Keep every notice you received about the cancellation and any letter about past premium tax credits.
  2. Create or log in to your own HealthCare.gov account so you control your application.
  3. Call a licensed agent at United Enrollment Services at 1-866-401-4116 — licensed in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming — who will ask for your electronic authorization before acting and can compare 2027 plans and enroll you.
  4. Ask any agent or broker to confirm they are registered with the Marketplace for plan year 2027 before you share personal information.
  5. Choose your plan by December 15, 2026 so coverage starts January 1, 2027, and pay the first premium.

Risks & deadlines

  • December 15, 2026: deadline for coverage starting January 1, 2027 in HealthCare.gov states.
  • January 15, 2027: Open Enrollment ends; later sign-ups need a qualifying life event.
  • Never let anyone enroll you without your direct, documented approval — unauthorized enrollments are what triggered these cancellations.
